Karen Sandler’s Tankborn – Books I’m Reading #1

Tankborn is the first in the Tankborn trilogy. Awakening is the second book, available now. The third has not yet been released.

I first read this book about 3 weeks ago, and I still can’t get the characters, or their world, out of my head.

The story follows Kayla and her friend Mishalla, two GEN girls who are about to be Assigned. GENs, Genetically Engineered Non-humans, are considered the lowest caste of all. However, all GENs are conditioned to believe that this is they way it should be.

As the story unfolds, it becomes evident that there is far more to this than dehumanizing caste systems. Kayla and Mishalla are linked in an unexpected way, and the GENs conditioning is not as it appears.

Welcome to Life: the singularity, ruined by lawyers – comedy/scifi video on YouTube

I love scifi, but I love it even more when it gets silly. So there’s this. It’s set in the 2050s and follows somebody who’s just died in a car crash.

The style reminds me of the Wii start screen. (Yep, I’m weird.)

Welcome to Life: the singularity, ruined by lawyers – YouTube.

Do you think the situation in the video is a possible feature of the future? Do you think it’ll be really different? What do you think the future holds for uploading of ones mind? Are you slightly horrified at the idea of a digital copy of you roaming around after you’re dead? (I am. It’s a bit too Borg-tastic for me.) Tell me in the comments.

Have fun with your day.
